GiGi's Playhouse

From GiGi's Playhouse:

My name is Venessa Diaz. I am the mother of three children who are students in the Connetquot School District, two of whom have Down syndrome. Naturally, since their birth I have made it my mission to raise awareness about Down syndrome. While there are many resources on Long Island for individuals with Ds and their families, there is nothing like GiGi's Playhouse.

GiGi's Playhouse is a non-profit Down syndrome Achievement Center that provides FREE educational and therapeutic classes, programs and workshops. There are currently 37 locations in the U.S. and one in Mexico. I am leading the effort to open a center in Long Island.  Our mission is to change the way the world views a Down syndrome diagnosis. We are currently in the fundraising and planning stages but hope to open our doors in the summer of 2019.

We are so honored to have the support of local businesses and families, but it is also the leaders in our educational system that will help us make an even bigger impact. To that end, Dr. Michael Hynes, superintendent of the Patchogue-Medford school district and his wife Erin Hynes, Assistant Superintendent at Sachem have joined our start-up committee! Involving the community in our events is what will help us thrive! I hope you will share our next family friendly event with the SEPTA community!  It is sure to be a fun event for all ages.  Please see the attached flyer.

I have also included links to our website and other relevant information about GiGi's.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Additionally, I would appreciate any ideas you may have to help further our reach on Long Island.

Thank you in advance for your time. I look forward to meeting you in person one day soon.

 Best,Venessa Diaz
